AiF Presents: Diversity Discourse Sessions

Q&A with Bird Runningwater

Moderated by Kristian "Krit" Schmidt

Join us for an intimate chat with a range of industry professionals who can speak to the importance and challenges of diversity in Hollywood.

While the industry hits new milestones in progression everyday, it still has a long way to go when it comes to ignorance, education and power.   Each session features a special guest working in the writing, acting, development or representation fields, offering insight through their backgrounds and experiences.  Each speaker will address a specific focus on a different equity issue such as racism, gender equality, homophobia/transphobia and intersectionality.

Please join us Monday, October 1, with special guest:

BIRD RUNNINGWATER belongs to the Cheyenne and Mescalero Apache peoples, and was reared on the Mescalero Apache Reservation in New Mexico.  Since 2001 he has led the Sundance Institute's investment in Native American and Indigenous filmmakers while building a global Indigenous film community.  He has nurtured new generations of filmmakers whose films have put Native Cinema on the cultural map. Based in Los Angeles, California, Runningwater serves as the Director of Sundance Institute's Native American and Indigenous Program and oversees the NativeLab Film Fellowship, the Time Warner Native Producers Fellowship, the Sundance Film Festival's Native Forum, the Full Circle Initiative and was recently appointed to co-lead the Institute's Diversity and Inclusion work across all programs.

Moderator: Kristian "Krit" Schmidt

With arguably the best head of hair in the business, New Zealand born Kristian 'Krit' Schmidt broke into the scene as a VJ for MTV Australia and New Zealand after coming out on top in a nationwide search in 2014.

Earning a Master's degree in Education, a conjoint degree in Law and Arts and being a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright scholarship, it's not just street smarts that the quick-witted 32-year-old brings to his new life as an actor and entertainer in LA.
